Friends chatting at writer’s day (Thanks again Rita!)Writer and Illustrator Friends

  • rhcrayon: The Blog! – Rita Crayon Huang is an awesome childrens/young adult writer and a vital member of my critique group. On her site, she blogs about writing, photography, music, and, above all, life. “It’s like we’re getting coffee together! Except w/o coffee…or you.”

  • Ken W. Min~ Illustrator for Hire – Ken Min is a stellar illustrator who lets us into his process for creating picture book illustrations. His beautiful work has recently received awards at several Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators events. He also likes pie. Check out his portfolio.
  • ajmitchell art – Illustration, cartoons and comics by professional writer/artist Andrew Mitchell. Despite the fact that Andy both writes and illustrates his own graphic novel, “Hector Impala, P.V.”, he leads a dark and secret life as a stock broker. He’s also currently the President of the Cartoonists of Orange County, the OC region of the National Cartoonists’ Society.
  • GottaBook – Thoughts, opinions, and ramblings about (broadly) children’s literature by Gregory K. Greg has become a bit of an internet celebrity for his ‘Fibs.’ Fibs are short haiku-like poems with syllable numbers based on the Fibonacci sequence. Math+Poetry= Funny. Make sure you read his ‘Oddaptations,’ abbreviated, and hilarious, versions of classic picture books.
  • I’m Here. I’m Queer. What the hell do I read? - The Place to find out about Young Adult fiction books with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning characters and themes. …and other cool stuff from Lee Wind, Teen Action Fantasy author. All kinds of great book reviews from a great writer!
  • the quiet angeleno – Quality ruminations on pop culture since 2006. Mike Winder shares his view of the world and southern California through interviews and articles written for independent Los Angeles newspapers and blogs. My favorite: “From Outer Space and Down Rabbit Holes” published in the Los Angeles CityBeat. It’s an exploration of Fry’s Electronics’ wonderfully outlandish store designs, from giant robots to their enormous Cheshire Cat.
